Adventurous Storyteller
Jack London, one of America’s major writers of
adventure tales, was born in California in 1876. During his life, London worked
at many jobs. His broad life experiences would become the background for his
writing.
London loved to read. As a teenager, he spent
many hours educating himself at the Oakland, California, public library. He
attended college at the University of California at Berkeley, but he stayed for
only six months. He thought Berkeley was “not lively enough” and wanted to do
something more exciting. London wrote stories about working people and the hard
times they had making a living.
Like
many people of the time, London caught the Klondike Gold Rush Fever. In l897,
he headed for Alaska. He didn’t find gold.
Later,
using his experiences during the Gold Rush, he created many colorful stories.
London resolved to live a full, exciting life. He once said, “I would rather be
a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent
planet.” Each day, he pushed himself. Once London determined that he was going
to be a writer, nothing could stop him. His goal was to write at least one
thousand words every day. He refused to stop even when he was sick. In eighteen
years, the writer published fifty-one books and hundreds of articles. He was
the best-selling and highest-paid author of his day. Many people also
considered him to be the best writer. White Fang and The Call of the Wild are
his most famous stories and are about surviving in the Alaskan wilderness.
Readers can enjoy Jack London’s energy and his talent for telling wonderful
stories each time they open one of his novels.

Which activity is better for groups and which for individuals?
American football is without a doubt a group activity.
It requires teamwork as players need to work together to do well. Video games
are, on the other hand, for individuals. They can be played with others but I
think that most people choose to play them on their own.
Are any of these activities popular with people your
age?
People my age are crazy about video games or computer
games. This is because most, if not all, have access to a television or
computer so they spend what little time they have playing games. It's
convenient, entertaining and even challenging. American football is not
particularly popular where I live, but other sports like football and
basketball are quite popular with people my age. In my opinion they are a must
for those who are active and like to keep fit. Bungee jumping Is an extreme
activity and is not something you can take up on a regular basis. It is also
considered expensive. People tend to do it once in a while when they get the
chance. People my age can't stand art as they consider it to be something
boring. I believe that it's quite interesting if you've got talent.
Do you do any of these activities? Why/Why not?
I spend a lot of my time playing video games/computer
games. This is because when I finish doing my homework it is usually too late
for me to do anything else. Playing video games/computer games helps me relax
and break away from my daily routine, and I don't even need to leave the
comfort of my home. Activities like bungee jumping and American football are
not for me. They are ideal activities for those who like extreme sports.
Which activity would you like to take up?
I'd like to take up art because it will help bring out
the creative side in me. It will help me spend my time enjoyably and it will also help me meet people
who might have the same interests as me. ----------------------------------------------------
Hi! Welcome back to my blog!

1. I would describe
playing video games (picture a) as an
entertaining and challenging indoor
activity. It's a great way to spend your
time and it can also sometimes help you develop certain skills. Some people, mainly adults, say that it is
a lonely activity, because the person playing
video games spends a lot of time alone in front of a screen and often does not socialise with people his/her age.
2. I
think American football (picture b) is a dangerous sports activity. It
is very violent and there is a big chance of players getting hurt. They wear
special equipment such as helmets so as to protect themselves. American
football is an outdoor sport and is played on a field, so special facilities
are required.
3. In picture
c we can see someone bungee jumping. This activity seems to be challenging
because you have to get over your fear of heights to do it and thrilling
because it must be terribly exciting to dive off a cliff or bridge. I suppose
that it can also be described as dangerous because you are putting your life at
risk. It's I an ideal activity for those who like being adventurous and living
on the edge.
1. In picture
d we can see some people attending an art class. This artistic activity is
a form of self-expression and is creative as it requires the use of one's
imagination. Activities such as this may also be described as relaxing as they
help you escape from your daily routine.
